Huntington Ingalls Industries said Monday that Ritchie-Curbow Construction Co. Inc., a local general contractor, has been awarded the contract to build the company’s new Family Health Center at its Newport News Shipbuilding division.
The center, scheduled to open this fall on Washington Avenue between 45th and 46th streets in Newport News, will offer primary care, radiology, physical therapy, laboratory services and an on-site pharmacy for eligible Newport News employees and their covered dependents.
Ritchie-Curbow Construction is located in Oyster Park in Newport News.
The lot on Washington Avenue has been sectioned off so construction can begin. When complete, the 21,894-square-foot facility will have 19 exam rooms in addition to five specialty exam rooms and two pediatric exam rooms.
The building also will have X-ray and chemistry labs, rooms for education and meetings and a pharmacy with drive-through service.
QuadMed, based out of Wisconsin and an operator of employer-sponsored health centers for companies across the country, will operate the center. Services will be available to non-represented employees and their dependents enrolled in eligible Anthem health plans or preferred-provider option plans.
“This health center will provide convenient, affordable care for our employees and their families in a location close to work,” said Bill Bell, Newport News Shipbuilding's vice president of human resources and administration, said in a statement.
The Huntington Ingalls Industries Family Health Center at Newport News Shipbuilding is one of two new centers opening for HII employees. Ingalls Shipbuilding in Mississippi will open a second health center. The centers are part of HII's larger benefits strategy designed to engage employees and their families in their own health and wellness and make quality healthcare more accessible.
