Richmond-based Eagle Construction of Virginia is partnering with Midtown Redevelopment Partners in Blacksburg to build single-family townhomes at the site of what was formerly Blacksburg Middle School, Eagle announced Wednesday.
The mixed-use community will be built on 30 acres adjacent to Blacksburg’s downtown area, but an overall cost for the project has not been released. Midtown is the developer of the entire site and is working with construction and design partners on the community, with Eagle contracted to build townhomes. Midtown will own the lots and buildings until purchased by individual owners.
“We’re pleased and excited to have Eagle join the team,” Midtown partner and spokesperson Jim Cowan said in a statement. “Eagle has a lot of experience building homes in mixed-use communities in the Richmond, Williamsburg, and Hampton Roads areas.”
More than 150 households have indicated interest in the townhomes including Virginia Tech faculty members, retirees and business leaders among others, according to Eagle. Initial homebuyers will be able to select their floor plans, exteriors and amenities depending on their budget.
The cost of the townhomes will depend on the choices that buyers make in terms of floor plans and amenities. Price points have not been determined yet, but Eagle said it expects to build 90 to 100 townhomes.
Interested homebuyers have access to a web portal and a Blacksburg-based design center is expected to open in 2020.
“Mixed-use communities are more successful when they incorporate top-quality building designs that suit the lifestyles and work styles of residents, visitors, and employees,” Eagle President Josh Goldschmidt said in a statement.
Construction will begin on initial homes in May, according to Eagle.
