Afton Chemical Corp., a specialty chemical company headquartered in Richmond, has broken ground on a facility in Singapore.
The chemical additive manufacturing facility on Jurong Island is expected to be fully operational within five years. The company said Foster Wheeler Singapore will manage the engineering and construction.
The plant will first produce detergents for commercial use in 2016. Dispersants and anti-wear components also will be produced by the time the facility is fully operational. Once completed, the plant will operate 24/7.
The facility’s location and design was meant to support the growth of Afton Chemical’s Asia-Pacific and Middle East markets.
“Since 2008, we’ve opened two new sales offices, four local warehouses, and expanded our R&D facilities. And we’ll continue to explore opportunities to better serve the region,” Damian Barnes, vice president of supply at Afton Chemical, said in a statement.
