Richmond Ballet has raised $6.35 million in a $10 million campaign.
The organization, which is the State Ballet of Virginia, is entering the public phase of its “Road to the Future” campaign after reaching more than half of its fundraising goal.
The campaign — and the amount already raised in its “quiet” phase — were announced at Wednesday night event at Dominion Resources’ headquarters on the James River in Richmond.
“The Richmond Ballet aspires to help transform our world through the unique and special power of dance by training and presenting ballet dancers as the ultimate artists/athletes, who inspire us by demonstrating unlimited human potential and beauty,” Stoner Winslett, the ballet’s founding artistic director, said in a statement.
The purpose of the campaign is to support the ballet’s core needs, including education programs; national and International touring; creative capital; building enhancements; and endowment.
The ballet has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington. D.C.; and in New York and London. In 2015, the ballet conducted a four-city tour of China.
