In April, Choe oversaw the opening of StarKist’s new global headquarters in Reston, with room for more than 70 corporate employees.

Then-Gov. Ralph Northam announced in 2021 that the tuna and chicken purveyor would invest $3.6 million to move its corporate and administrative headquarters from Pittsburgh to Fairfax County.

Choe started on the path of running the company, probably best known for its famed mascot Charlie the Tuna, in 2010 by taking a job as director of strategic planning with StarKist’s South Korean parent company, Dongwon Industries Co. Ltd. Executives later named Choe senior vice president of supply chain and operations for StarKist before tapping him as president and CEO in 2014.

As head of the company, Choe was the company’s face in 2018 when StarKist was sentenced to pay a $100 million criminal fine for the company’s role in a conspiracy to fix prices of U.S. canned tuna between 2011 and 2013.

After earning degrees in psychology and economics from the University of California Los Angeles, Choe received an MBA, with concentrations in finance and operations management, from Yale.
