Reed Smith LLP announced the election Wednesday of Alexander Y. “Sandy” Thomas of Falls Church as its global managing partner. Thomas’ three-year term begins on August 1.
“I am deeply honored to be elected by my partners,” Thomas, said in a statement. He was first selected by the law firm’s Executive Committee as global managing partner in October 2013, when former Global Managing Partner Gregory B. Jordan left the firm. This marks the first time he was elected by the partners of the Washington, D.C.-based firm to a full three-year term.
Thomas is the former chair of Reed Smith’s Litigation Department. He’s a 1993 graduate of Washington & Lee University School of Law. Thomas joined Reed Smith in1999 as part of that firm’s combination with Hazel & Thomas P.C.
Based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, he is the 11th managing partner of the firm in its 137-year history. Reed Smith is a global firm with 1.900 lawyers in 25 offices, including one in Richmond.
