Global Refining Group Inc. announced Monday plans to invest $4.2 million in a recycling operation in Lunenburg County that's expected to create 30 jobs.
The company said it would establish a catalytic convertor recycling operation in Kenbridge, the same town where its sister company, ABC Recycling, is located. ABC Recycling recycles vehicles, scrap metals and catalytic converters.
“The rapid growth of ABC Recycling created the demand for the establishment of Global Refining Group, which will take the recycling process to the next step and become the premier East Coast location for catalytic convertor recycling,” Gov. Terry McAuliffe said in a statement.
According to his office, Global Refining Group will locate in a recently retrofitted building near ABC Recycling.
Virginia competed against Connecticut and New York for the project.
McAuliffe approved a $100,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund for the project. The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission also will provide $145,000 in funds.
