The Urban Land Institute of Richmond is seeking 30 citizens to join 300 community leaders from across the region in a planning exercise on May 14. The RVA Reality Check will be held at VCU’s Siegel Center in Richmond.

The daylong event, cosponsored in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University and Timmons Group, is free. The keynote speaker is Steven Pedigo of The Creative Class Group.

Facilitators will lead participants in groups of 10 who will seek to build consensus on how and where growth in the region should happen between now and 2035. The exercise, based on real data and community planning concepts, is designed to get people to think about where jobs, homes and green spaces should be.

Each group will be invited to design a model, using Lego blocks, to demonstrate its vision for the region’s future.

Thirty citizen slots are reserved. People have until April 15 to apply. To learn more about the application process, people can contact ULI Richmond at [email protected] .
