CEO, HITT CONTRACTING INC., FALLS CHURCH
Virginia Business// August 29, 2022//
When Roy was a child, her mother had a post-church Sunday ritual: eating chocolate doughnuts and touring model homes for fun. That piqued an interest in building in Roy, who went on to take drafting classes in high school and studied building construction in college, setting her on her life’s path.
With a degree in construction from Virginia Tech, Roy was hired by Hitt, one of the Forbes’ top 200 largest private companies, in 1999. In 2017 she was appointed the family-owned company’s first unrelated CEO in more than eight decades.
In 2020, Hitt brought in $2.5 billion in revenue. The company, which has 13 offices nationwide, employs 1,400 workers, with about 850 in the metro D.C. region. Its construction projects range from government buildings and museums to hotels, hospitals and industrial warehouses.

SOMETHING I’D NEVER DO AGAIN: Not dream big enough. I would encourage everyone to think bigger and get out of your comfort zone.
ONE THING I’D CHANGE ABOUT VIRGINIA: I love this state, but in Virginia, traffic isn’t fun.
