Portsmouth-based coffee manufacturer and brand owner Massimo Zanetti USA announced last week that it has promoted Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Matthew Smith to president, effective immediately.
In the role, Smith will oversee the implementation of the company’s strategic goals. He will work closely with CEO Scott Meader to shape the company’s long-term vision while advancing initiatives to boost commercial success, drive innovation and accelerate national growth.
The company did not state who Smith is succeeding in the position or if it was a newly created role, and it did not immediately return requests for comment. Meader’s LinkedIn profile listed him as both president and CEO from July 2024 to the present.
Smith joined the company in 2023 as vice president of sales and foodservice before being promoted to senior vice president of sales and marketing. During his tenure, the company said he helped modernize its commercial organization, strengthen customer partnerships and drive gains in volume and distribution across retail, foodservice and e-commerce channels.
“Matthew has been a transformative force within our organization, solidifying our operations and driving significant gains,” Meader said in a statement. “Having already made a profound impact on our performance, his strategic vision and deep expertise make him the ideal leader to propel our company through its next chapter of growth.”
Before joining MZB-USA, Smith spent more than a decade at food and beverage company VOSS Water in various roles, including leading North American sales. Before VOSS, Smith held leadership and commercial roles at RNDC, Frito-Lay, and Nestlé Waters.
“I’m honored to step into the role of president at such an exciting time for Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA,” Smith said in a statement. “We have a strong foundation, iconic brands and tremendous opportunities ahead. I look forward to continuing to work alongside our teams and partners to drive sustainable growth, strengthen our customer relationships, and unlock the full potential of our portfolio.”
Headquartered in Portsmouth, Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA is the U.S. division of Italy-based Massimo Zanetti Beverage Group, which was founded in 1973 and sells roughly 120,000 tons of coffee annually through 20 international consumer brands. The global company operates roasting plants worldwide and maintains a distribution network of subsidiaries and authorized dealers in over 100 countries. The USA division has roasting facilities in Suffolk and New Jersey, and a coffee plantation in Hawaii.
