The Port of Virginia reported record volumes in October.
The port moved 265,490, 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in October, up more than 11 percent from the previous year. It also set a monthly record for the most cargo handled in a single month.
Peak-season volumes are steady, and Virginia Port Authority CEO and Executive Director John Reinhart expects those trends to continue through December, according to a statement.
For the first 10 months of 2017, TEU volumes are up 7.9 percent, containers up 8.2 percent, rail up 4 percent, trucks up 10 percent and barge volume is up 28.5 percent.
October cargo snapshot:
· Total export TEUs: 138,933, up 14.3 percent
· Total import TEUs: 126,557, up 8.1 percent
· Containers: 149,595, up 11.6 percent
· Virginia Inland containers: 3,359, up 18.3 percent
· Truck containers: 94,304, up 14.4 percent
· Rail containers: 50,441, up 3.9 percent
· Total barge containers, 4,850, up 45.6 percent
· Richmond barge containers, 2,849, up 48.5 percent
· Vehicle units, 2,295, up 102.9 percent
