Pole manufacturer plans expansion in Washington County

Hapco Pole Products, a manufacturer of aluminum poles, plans to spend $6 million in expanding its Washington County operations.
The company will construct a 60,000-square-foot facility adjacent to its current manufacturing campus in Abingdon. The project is expected to create 28 jobs.
Hapco dates back to 1843 when its parent company, Hubbard and Co., began operation as manufacturer of forgings and stampings for the utility industry.
Hapco was acquired by its current owner, Dyson-Kissner-Moran, in 1958. The company opened its Abingdon facility in 1962.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Washington County to secure the project and will support Hapco’s job creation through its Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP).
VJIP provides consultative services and funding to companies creating new jobs or experiencing technological change to support employee training activities.
In addition, the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission approved $95,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds.
