Medical and surgical supplier Owens & Minor Inc. has promoted James L. Bierman to president and chief operating officer effective Aug. 1.
Bierman, 60, has been executive vice president and chief operating officer since March 2012. He joined Owens & Minor in June 2007 as senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Craig R. Smith, who previously held the title of chairman, president and CEO, will remain as chairman and CEO of the Richmond-based company.
In Bierman’s new role, he will have day-to-day oversight of the company’s sales, operations and logistics, and will work with the management team to develop the company’s business in Europe and Asia.
Before joining Owens & Minor, Bierman was CFO of Quintilles Transnational Corp., which provides product development and commercial solutions for the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical-device industries. He also worked 22 years at Arthur Andersen & Co.
