Mechanicsville-based Owens & Minor Inc. has named Michael C. Riordan, a former co-chief executive officer of Prisma Health, to its board of directors.
Owens & Minor is a Fortune 500 medical distribution company with 17,000 employees in 90 countries.
Riordan, 61, served as chief executive for the Greenville Health System from 2006 to 2016, when it merged with Palmetto Health to form Prisma Health, the largest health system in South Carolina.
Riordan was co-CEO at Greenville-based Prisma until his retirement in June. Before Prisma, Riordan had served as president and CEO of University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System and chief financial officer at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
In addition announcing Riordan’s appointment, Owens & Minor said longtime director Anne Marie Whittemore will retire from the board on Jan. 1.
Whittemore, a former chair of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, is a retired partner in the law firm McGuireWoods LLP.
She has been a director at Owens & Minor since 1991 and served as the independent lead director from 2014 through 2018.
