Old Dominion University’s Strome College of Business will host its sixth annual Conference of the International Corporate Governance Society from Nov. 13 to Nov. 15, its Department of Management and Entrepreneurship announced Tuesday.
The conference will include a forum for international academics, practitioners and doctoral students to showcase and discuss corporate governance research findings. Conference topics will include environmental sustainability, boards of directors, ownership dynamics, government roles and corporate self-responsibility.
“Corporate governance deals with mechanisms used by a society to control corporations so that they serve society well,” Professor William “Bill” Judge, chair of strategic leadership in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship and co-chair of the conference, said in a statement. “Corporations can be part of the solution to this growing global crisis, and theory and research is needed to understand what works best.” Judge is the founding president of the international academic society.
Departmental faculty, professors and doctoral students will participate in the conference. It is estimated that more than 100 corporate governance scholars from 38 countries will be in attendance at the conference.
“In today’s world, companies are held accountable for all of their actions, especially those that impact the environment,” Jeff Tanner, Strome College of Business dean, said in a statement. “Corporate governance is not only critical to the efficient and effective functioning of organizations, but also in solving some of our society’s most complex problems.”
The conference will be held on a 24/7 basis to accommodate international attendees. Interested attendees must register online through the International Corporate Governance Society.
