New leadership team takes helm at HHHunt Corp.

For the first time since its founding in 1966, Blacksburg-based HHHunt — one of Virginia’s largest residential real estate companies — has a new leadership team.

Effective today, Harry H. “Buck” Hunt IV becomes vice chairman and CEO. He is the son of the company’s founder, Harry H. Hunt III, who will retain his position as chairman.

As part of the transition, Daniel T. Schmitt, based in the Richmond office, assumes the position of president and chief operating officer. As co-leaders, Hunt and Schmitt are taking over the job of David E. Reemsnyder II, who served as president and CEO. Reemsnyder, who worked for the company since 1973, retired on June 30.

According to a company press release, Buck Hunt and Schmitt have been training for their new positions during the previous year.

In another promotion, James Crowder becomes executive vice president for financing and accounting.

“HHHunt is poised for great things with Buck and Dan at the helm,” Harry Hunt said in a statement. “We’re proud of their work and dedication to the company. The entire HHHunt family is also appreciative of the tireless efforts by David Reemsnyder, and we wish him well in retirement.”

Schmitt will keep his office in Henrico and oversee land and community development, homebuilding and properties development (which includes apartment homes and assisted-living homes) as well as golf and country club operations.

Buck Hunt will work from an office in Raleigh, N.C., and oversee the areas of finance, accounting, human resources and business technology services.

Harry Hunt will retain his office in Blacksburg, giving the company three headquarters locations instead of one.

“We envision big things for HHHunt,” said Schmitt. “The leaders before us put HHHunt in this incredible position for growth and we plan to capitalize on it. Harry Hunt started reinvesting 90 cents of every dollar back into the growth of the company and that reinvestment will continue. It remains the key to our success.”

HHHunt, a diversified regional real estate development and management company, operates in four states: Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Maryland. The company owns and manages more than 7,000 apartment homes and 21 assisted-living homes and has homebuilding operations in Hampton Roads, Richmond, and Raleigh. It employs more than 1,700 people.

In the Richmond area, HHHunt Communities has developed master-planned communities such as Wellesley, Wyndham and Twin Hickory in Henrico; Rutland and Providence in Hanover County; and The Villages of Charter Colony in Chesterfield County.
