The former Taylor Brothers retail lumber facility at 1052 Independence Blvd. off Route 460 West in Bedford has sold for $966,000, and the new owner plans to convert the building into a furniture showroom and warehouse.
According to Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer, which brokered the sale, Joel R. Shepherd purchased the 22,000-sqare-foot facility on 6.7 acres from RBT Properties LLC. He plans to convert the facility into a retail furniture store called Virginia Furniture Market to serve the Bedford and Lynchburg markets. This will be Shepherd’s second retail furniture store location. His original store is located in Rocky Mount, Va., in a 60,000-square-foot building on Virgil Goode Highway.
The new store plans to hire between 16-18 employees and will be open by mid-summer.
George Lupton and Norman Moon of Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer handled negotiations on behalf of the seller.
