Number of cases increases by 1,152 since Wednesday, VDH reports

As the nation passed 100,000 COVID-19 deaths Wednesday, the Virginia Department of Health recorded 1,338 virus-related deaths in the state Thursday, an increase of 57 over the past 24 hours.
VDH also reported 41,401 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases Thursday, an increase of 1,152 cases since Wednesday. According to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association‘s Thursday update, 1,502 people with confirmed or pending COVID-19 test results are hospitalized, while 5,472 have been discharged since the pandemic hit the state.
Having performed 285,273 PCR tests, VDH reported a positivity rate of 13.8% statewide, which continues to decline.

Globally, there are 5.71 million reported COVID-19 cases and 356,213 confirmed deaths as of May 28. In the United States, which has the most confirmed cases and deaths worldwide, there are 1.69 million confirmed cases and 100,442 deaths attributed to the coronavirus.
