Richmond-based Moseley Architects said Thursday it is merging with Marks Thomas, a Baltimore-based architecture firm.

The combined firm will be known as Moseley Architects, effective Jan. 1.

Marks Thomas’ projects focuses on the senior-living, multi-family housing, education and historic-preservation markets. The woman-owned business was founded in 1967.

“Our two organizations have recently collaborated, so I know that this merger affords us an even greater depth of resources to serve our clients,” Moseley Architects President Stewart D. Roberson said in a statement.

Moseley projects center on public schools, colleges and universities; local government facilities; correctional institutions and senior living housing.

Moseley said the merger will provide it with a Maryland location and enable it to become active in the multi-family housing marketplace while strengthening its presence in the senior- living market.

The existing governance structure at Moseley Architects will remain the same. Marks Thomas’ leaders will be represented as board members and shareholders.

Founded in 1969, Moseley has existing offices in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
