McLean-based The Mitre Corp., a not-for-profit organization that manages federally funded research and development centers, announced Tuesday it has established the Center for Data-Driven Policy, which will provide evidence-based, objective and nonpartisan insights for government policymaking.

“Our team of experts will take what Mitre has learned through research and experimentation and apply those insights to help guide policymakers,” Dave Powner, Mitre director of strategic engagement and partnerships and executive director of the new center, said in a statement. “Like Mitre, the Center for Data-Driven Policy doesn’t lobby or take political positions. Our goal is to broaden and strengthen an evidence-based approach to policy decisions.”

The center will work with government, industry, universities, think tanks and other nonprofit organizations to develop policy based on data, modeling and simulation, according to a statement.

“Mitre’s mission is to solve problems for a safer world, and that goes beyond working at a technical or program level,” Mitre President and CEO Jason Providakes said in a statement. “We want to expand the role of outcome-based research and information in the policy domain, through our experience, our technology, and our unique access to data.”

During the next few weeks, the Center for Data-Driven Policy will release white papers about the following topics:

  • Framework for Developing and Implementing Data-Driven, Actionable Policy
  • Delivering Mission Outcomes Through Digital Transformation: Ways to Accelerate Technology Modernization
  • Actionable Ethics for Fairness in AI
  • Strengthening Our Resilience to Environmental Change Is a National Security Imperative
  • Will We Be Ready for our Next Crisis? The Science and Art of Models – Practical Information for Data-Driven Decisions
  • Achieving Transformational Customer Experience

MITRE was founded in 1958 and has more than 8,400 employees.
