Richmond-based Media General officially merged Tuesday with Nashville-based New Young Broadcasting. As a result of the merger, Media General now owns 31 television stations, 13 which were acquired from New Young Broadcasting. The merged company will keep the Media General name and will remain headquartered in Richmond.
Media General sold all of its newspapers in 2012. Sixty-three newspapers were sold to World Media Enterprises, a subsidiary of Omaha, Neb.-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc. that summer. In the fall, the company sold its last remaining newspaper The Tampa Tribune to Tampa Media Group Inc.
