Lougee is no stranger to the world of mergers and acquisitions that have become part of the media business. In May, Tegna terminated its merger agreement with New York hedge fund Standard General when the financial agreements needed to fund the deal expired.

In 2015, Gannett Co. spun off its broadcasting and digital business to form Tegna, which remains the nation’s largest owner of NBC affiliates, with 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets. Lougee added CEO to his title of president in June 2017 and joined Tegna’s board of directors. Prior to that, he spent 10 years as president of Tegna Media and was executive vice president of media relations for Belo.

Lougee serves on the boards of the Broadcasters Foundation of America and Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI). A past chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters, he has been inducted into the Broadcasting + Cable Hall
of Fame.
