McLean-based software company KLDiscovery Inc. has completed its 12th acquisition in seven years, buying Richmond-based legal services company Superior Document Services (SDS), KLDiscovery announced Thursday.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

SDS was founded in 1998 by Kriss Wilson and Renee Covington. The company provides litigation copying, scanning and database hosting to legal and corporate clients.

KLDiscovery offers data collection and forensic investigation, data processing, application software and data hosting for law firms, corporations and government agencies. The company operates at more than 40 locations in 20 countries.

KLDiscovery CEO Christopher Weiler said in a statement the acquisition would be a “natural fit” for his company which has recently acquired several companies. Since 2013, KLDiscovery has merged with Kroll Ontrack, AlphaLit, Turnstone, FlashData Solutions, RenewData, Credence, CopySecure, Elite Document Solutions, Strategic Legal Solutions and Compiled. In December 2019, it merged with Pivotal Acquisition Corp.

“We are excited to be joining the KLDiscovery team,” SDS co-founder Renee Covington said in a statement. “Our customers will immediately benefit from KLDiscovery’s industry leading platform, global presence and commitment to excellence.”
