Maritime Square reports a strong first quarter for leases, with the office building at 2600 Washington Ave. in Newport News seeing more than 36,800 square feet of new and renewal leases. The tenants include Huntington Ingalls Inc., Tax International LLC, the Court Services Unit of the city of Newport News and the district offices of Congressman Robert C. Scott.
Maritime Square LLC acquired the property in November 2010 and has completed several capital improvements. They include reconfiguration and resurfacing of the parking lot, refurbishment of the lobbies and restrooms, new roofs, exterior repainting and major upgrades to the heating and cooling systems.
The downtown building is close to City Hall, the courthouse and Newport News Shipbuilding. Jay Joseph and Alex Stern, both senior vice presidents with Harvey Lindsay Commercial Real Estate, represent the property. “We are pleased that Maritime Square has continued to perform well in this still uncertain economy, as evidenced by the signing of 92,800 square feet of leases during the last 18 months. The owners’ willingness … to work aggressively to complete these transactions should insure that this positive trend continues,” Stern said in a statement.
