In 2020, Fairbanks became president and CEO of publicly traded composite decking and railing manufacturer Trex, one of Fortune’s 100 fastest-growing companies that year.
For fiscal year 2022, benefiting from a pandemic-era increased demand in home improvement, Trex brought in more than $1.1 billion, expanding distribution in Texas and launching a new decking line. In Winchester, Trex employees moved into the company’s new $7 million headquarters in June.
Fairbanks joined Trex in 2004 as director of financial planning and analysis. Following the June resignation of Trex’s chief financial officer, Dennis Schemm, Fairbanks, who had been Trex’s CFO for five years before his promotion to CEO, took on additional CFO duties on an interim basis. Prior to joining Trex, Fairbanks worked in finance for Ford Motor, after earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Dayton and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.
Fairbanks serves on the board of the Frederick County Economic Development Authority and the Governor’s Advisory Council on Revenue Estimates.
