A lawyer, healthcare executive and philanthropist, Roanoke native Fralin has been working since age 13, when he started out as a paperboy.

Fralin is chairman of Retirement Unlimited, which owns and operates 19 senior independent living, assisted living and memory care communities in Virginia and Florida. He previously chaired Roanoke-based Medical Facilities of America, a rehabilitation and nursing care provider that was sold last year to Innovative Healthcare Management.

Fralin graduated from the University of Virginia and earned his law degree from American University. He has served on the board of visitors at U.Va. and Virginia Tech and is on the board of the Virginia Business Higher Education Council. In 2018, he and his wife, Cynthia, along with a family charitable trust, donated $50 million to support the establishment of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. Virginia Tech presented him with its highest honor, the William H. Ruffner Medal, in 2019.

Last year, Fralin established an endowment fund supporting educational programs and wildlife preservation at Roanoke’s Mill Mountain Zoo.
