The acquisition nearly doubles Herndon-based contractor's size

Herndon-based intelligence contractor Intrepid Solutions and Services LLC has acquired Darkblade Systems Corp., a Winchester-based federal defense contractor, it announced Wednesday.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Intrepid CEO Ryan Hebert said in a statement: “Welcoming Darkblade Systems into the Intrepid family is a transformative moment for us, and one that will greatly benefit our customers, partners and entire team. As many of our employees are veterans of the agencies we support, our teams share an ongoing commitment to serve the national security mission.”
Darkblade Systems provides scientific, engineering, technical, operational support and training services. It specializes in supporting U.S. military labs with research and development and has ranked on the Inc. 5000 — Inc. Magazine’s list of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. — every year since 2016.
“Intrepid and Darkblade Systems have highly complementary capabilities in defense and intelligence technologies and services,” Darkblade Systems CEO Fred Starkey said in the statement, “and we look forward to working with our new team members to support the continued modernization and evolution of our nation’s military systems.”
Intrepid provides IT and professional services to the intelligence community and national security agencies. It is a portfolio company of McLean-based private equity firm Bluestone Investment Partners.
