Innovative health-care efforts recognized

Four groups received awards Thursday recognizing innovations in health care.

The winners of the 2013 Virginia Healthcare Innovator Awards are:

Employee Health: Bon Secours Virginia Health System in Richmond and Hampton Roads for its employee wellness program.

Health Information Technology: Brily Innovations LLC in Abingdon for its Radiation Reconciliation program, which reduces the number of avoidable CT scans.

Medical Product or Device: CW Optics Inc. in Seaford for its WoundImager that provides noninvasive blood-flow images of tissues, including wounds, ulcers and bruises.

Patient Care. Bay Aging and Riverside Health System for their partnership in rural areas of Eastern Virginia in a hospital-to-home coaching program aimed at reducing hospital readmissions for Medicare patients with chronic illnesses.

Other nominees for the awards were:

Employee health: Carilion Clinic, Henrico County Public Schools, Markel Corp. and the Richmond Ambulance Authority.

Health IT: eHealthObjects Inc., Kaiser Permanente of the Mid Atlantic States, Lift Caregiving, MedCPU Inc., Mirixa Corp. and Virginia HIT.

Medical Product or Device: Biovista, Cupron and Phthisis Diagnostics.

Patient Care: Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center, Fredericksburg Counseling Services Inc., Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, Johnston Memorial Hospital, University of Virginia Health System, VCU Health System, VCU Health System-Virginia Coordinated Care Program and Virginia Spine Institute.
