In the Lead: Best Family-Owned Businesses in Virginia


In the Lead: Best Family-Owned Businesses is a special section (online and print) from Virginia Business recognizing outstanding women-owned businesses based in Virginia. Winning companies will be featured in the May 2025 issue of Virginia Business magazine and online. To be eligible for consideration as one of the Best Family-Owned Businesses in Virginia, a company must:

  • Have majority ownership by a single family.
  • Have a family in a major position of leadership.
  • Be based in Virginia.
  • Have at least four full-time employees who are not outside contractors.
  • Be more than four years old.
Winning businesses will demonstrate business success through growth in revenue or employees, and demonstrate community engagement. Mentoring and leadership opportunities for female employees, high employee morale and employee support programs are also areas that will be considered. Deadline for submission is June 20, 2025. Information provided on this form may be used by Virginia Business Magazine in the corresponding publication.
