Soon urbane furniture and Swedish meatballs will be easier to come by in Norfolk.
Ikea announced yesterday it plans to open on April 10 the Swedish retailer’s 331,000-square-foot store at the northwest corner of Interstate 64 and Northampton Boulevard at 1500 Ikea Way.
Ikea is a global brand that sells design-forward, build-it-yourself furniture along with Swedish and American fare.
In 2016, Ikea announced its plans of opening in Norfolk what will be the company’s 50th store. Linkous Construction Co. broke ground on the site in Nov. 2017. The 2019 opening date is a year later than Ikea originally planned after challenges arose related to configuring the store on its 19-acre site.
The Norfolk store will be Ikea’s second in Virginia; the other Ikea location in Woodbridge attracts shoppers from as far as Richmond.
Ikea said for the Norfolk grand opening the doors open at 9 a.m. but customers may begin lining up at 5 a.m.
