HITT Contracting Inc. recently completed the construction of the five-story, 64,000 square-foot Arlington Mill Community Center in Arlington.

The complex is adjacent to Four Mile Run at the intersection of Columbia Pike and South Dinwiddie Street. It includes a two-level underground parking garage and a residential building that sits atop the garage podium.

Construction began in September 2011.  The new facility is part of the county’s effort to transform Columbia Pike into a sustainable and walkable urban-style environment.

The community center was designed by Davis, Carter, Scott Ltd. It has a mostly glass façade, an 8,000 square-foot .gymnasium, and many sustainable features, including a 36,500-gallon rain harvesting cistern and green roof.

The Arlington Mill Community Center was built to provide recreational, social and learning opportunities for all county residents.  “The entire project was a collaborative process from start to finish. We worked with various county stakeholders during construction to build a truly mixed-use facility that supports traditional and future public programs,” Amanda Logsdon, project manager for HITT Contracting Inc., said in a statement.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the center is scheduled for Sept.  21, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. with an open house to follow on Dec. 6 and 7.
