Four residents at Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Henrico County tested positive for coronavirus in the past 48 hours and three more residents who are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms are being tested, the nursing home announced Friday afternoon.

“Per guidance from the Henrico County Health Department, all seven patients are currently being treated onsite in an isolated unit with dedicated nursing and certified nursing assistant staff,” Dr. James Wright, medical director at Canterbury, said in the statement. “Their status is being monitored closely.”

Any employees with respiratory symptoms or a fever are not allowed in the facility. The center had already suspended visitations, and will continue to do so.

“While our thoughts, efforts and prayers are focused on our residents, we also want to thank those nurses, doctors, therapists, aids, housekeepers, dietary staff and maintenance teams that are working tirelessly to care for our elders,” Wright said. “Their brave professionalism and dedication to the people in our care is a testament to the love and respect we all share for our residents.”

As of Friday afternoon, the Virginia Department of Health confirmed 114 novel coronavirus cases in Virginia.
