PRESIDENT, CAPITAL DIVISION, HCA HEALTHCARE, RICHMOND
Virginia Business// August 30, 2023//
Previously CEO of HCA’s Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals, Lunn was promoted in January to president of the Nashville, Tennessee-based health system’s division that includes 19 hospitals in Virginia, New Hampshire, Indiana and Kentucky. He succeeded Tim McManus, who now leads HCA’s national operating group.
HCA, which reported $60.23 billion in 2022 revenues, employs 16,800 people in Virginia. The health system had some setbacks this year after the Virginia Department of Health recommended denying HCA’s proposals to build a 60-bed hospital and a $39 million standalone emergency room in Hanover County, instead supporting a proposal from rival Bon Secours.
This year, HCA also rebranded 10 BetterMed Urgent Care centers it acquired last year in the Richmond and Fredericksburg areas into HCA’s CareNow system.
A pulmonologist, Lunn was formerly president and CEO of Tulane Health System and chief operating officer at Christus Northern Louisiana. He was also assistant dean of clinical affairs at Houston’s Baylor College of Medicine, where he was founding director of its Complex Airway and Pleural Disease Center.
Lunn received his bachelor’s degree from Tulane University and his medical degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
