Robert F. Carrel has been named president of HCA’s Richmond-based Capital Division, effective Jan.1.

Carrel has served as chief financial officer of the division since 2006. He replaces Margaret Lewis who will retire after a 37-year career with HCA.

As division president, Carrel will be responsible for 17 hospitals in Virginia, New Hampshire, Kentucky and Indiana. A search for a new Capital Division CFO is underway.

Lewis began her career as a student nurse at Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond. She earned promotions to senior-level positions as chief nursing officer of HCA's Richmond/Tri-Cities market; chief operating officer of CJW Medical Center; and chief executive officer of CJW in 2001, before becoming president of the Capital Division in 2004.
