Global Technical Systems will expand operations of its Virginia Beach headquarters to allow production of composite electro-mechanical batteries (EMB).
The production facility at 777 Seahawk Circle will increase by 8,000 square feet from its present 13,344 square feet. The company will invest $4.1 million in construction, furniture, fixtures, equipment, machinery and tools. Global Technical Systems will also create an additional 21 jobs at an average annual salary of $64,000.
The expansion supports technologies developed by Global Technical Systems’ Composites Group that use composite materials, processes and designs to build EMBs. They convert electricity into kinetic energy for storage then back to conditioned electricity using a motor generator and spinning flywheel. EMBs offer significant advantages over traditional electrochemical batteries, including ultra-high efficiency energy recovery ratings, greatly reduced maintenance needs and major cost savings.
The Virginia Beach Economic Development Authority has awarded the company an Economic Development Investment Program grant in the amount of $125,000 based on the capital investment.
Founded in 1997, Global Technical Systems’ expertise includes mission-critical combat systems, avionics, composites, threat detection, biometrics, advanced radars and other sensor systems.
