The Fresh Market grocery chain has signed a lease for a new location in Chesterfield County. The store, expected to open in late 2015, will be located in the Commonwealth Center shopping area, at the intersection of Hull Street (U.S. 360) and Route 288.
It will be the company’s 14th store in Virginia and its second in Chesterfield. Fresh Market, a gourmet grocery chain based in Greensboro, N.C., now operates a store off Huguenot Road across from Chesterfield Town Center. It has two other stores in the Richmond near Regency Mall in Henrico County and near Carytown in the city.
The Richmond area also saw the opening this week of two Walmart Neighborhood Market stores. As opposed to full-size Walmart stores, these smaller stores, about 41,000 square feet, focus primarily on groceries. They both have pharmacies and bakeries and offer some household goods, health and beauty products, and pet products.
The stores opened Wednesday at 5700 Hopkins Road in the Meadowbrook Plaza shopping center in Chesterfield County and at 9714 Sliding Hill Road in Hanover County.
