Freedom First Credit Union has opened a new branch in an historic building in downtown Roanoke.

The new branch, located in the historic State and City Building at 102 Campbell Ave., will house Freedom First’s Business Banking and Commercial Lending division.

The Roanoke-based credit union will be the first financial institution to occupy the commercial space at 102 Campbell Ave. since the 1930s when it was the State and City Bank. More recently, Frank L. Moose Jewelers occupied the building.

The credit union says it has preserved the space’s historic elements and added modern style and technology, including a meeting table made by Black Dog Salvage and historic images contributed by the History Museum of Western Virginia and the Roanoke Public Library.

Freedom First Credit Union was founded in Salem 60 years ago. It serves over 48,000 members in the Roanoke and New River Valleys and has assets of $450 million.
