Four Virginia companies picked for improvement program

The U.S. Senate Productivity and Quality Award (SPQA) organization has begun a program to boost the performance of Virginia companies.

Four companies are participating in SPQA Ones to Watch program. The project will focus on financial results, customer loyalty, job creation, operational effectiveness, improvement strategies and workforce engagement.   
The program will assist the Virginia businesses with education, assessment and strategic support to help their development.

“The Ones to Watch will focus on performance excellence and quality within each participating business, but we also consider the bigger picture: They’re raising the bar for their industry,” Rebecca Anderson, the executive director of SPQA, said in statement. “These businesses will come out of the program more competitive, and that contributes to the overall economic health of the state.”

The companies participating in the program are:

Champion Brewery, Charlottesville:  Founded in 2012, Champion Brewery produces ales in two locations and has a tap room and a production factory. The company produces 10,000 barrels a year.

Lumi Organics, Charlottesville: Founded in 2013, Lumi is an organic juice company. It uses high-pressure cold processing, instead of a heat pasteurization process, to preserve the flavor and nutritional content of its juices.

Performance Signs, Ruckersville: Established in 1996, Performance Signs designs signs, banners, vehicle lettering, vehicle wraps, window lettering, real estate signs and other signage.

Appalachian Technology Solutions LLC, Roanoke: Started in 2006, Appalachian Technology Solutions is a manufacturer and engineering service provider of structurally reinforced thermoplastic (SRTP)-based water and wastewater systems.

The U.S. Senate Productivity and Quality Award (SPQA) is a nonprofit entity that was created to strengthen Virginia and District of Columbia businesses.
