Dennis H. Treacy, the recently retired executive vice president and chief sustainability officer at Smithfield Foods, joined the law firm Reed Smith LLP as senior counsel in its Government Relations and Administrative Law Group in Richmond.
Treacy, who also was president of the Smithfield Foundation, is rector of the Virginia Tech’s Board of Visitors. He is immediate past chair the Virginia Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
Before joining Smithfield in 2002, Treacy was director of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
Treacy currently chairs VIRGINIAforever, an organization that advocates increased state funding for water quality and land conservation.
He earned an undergraduate degree in forestry and wildlife at Virginia Tech in 1978 and a law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School in 1983, which in 2010 named him a Distinguished Environmental Law Graduate.
