A former politician has been elected to Arlington-based BAE Systems Inc.’s board of directors for a three-year term.

Ellen Tauscher served as undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, and served as special envoy for strategic stability and missile defense at the U.S. State Department from 2009 to 2012. Prior to that, she was a U.S. representative for California from 1997 to 2009.

Before becoming a politician, Tauscher worked in the financial sector and was one of the first women to become a member of the New York Stock Exchange.

Today, she is a strategic adviser at Baker Donelson Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC, and serves on a number of boards, including The Atlantic Council of the United States, The National Comprehensive Cancer Network Foundation and Los Alamos National Security Corp.

BAE also said that three outside directors completed their terms this month: Robert Fitch, Linda Hudson, and Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minihan (retired). The company is the U.S. subsidiary of BAE Systems plc, a British defense, security and aerospace company.
