Lawrence Roberts, a former counselor to U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine and senior level Democratic official, has become a partner at Venable LLP.
He will join Venable’s Government Affairs Group, working in the firm’s Tysons Corner and Washington, D.C. , offices.
Roberts held many top legal positions with Kaine. He was campaign chair and senior strategist for Kaine’s 2005 gubernatorial campaign and 2012 Senate election. Roberts also served as Kaine’s counselor for three years while Kaine was governor.
Between 2009 and 2012 Roberts held jobs with the Democratic National Committee, including chief of staff to the chairman (who was Kaine at the time) and then as senior adviser to the executive director during the 2012 presidential campaign.
After Kaine’s win in the Senate race last November, Roberts served on his transition team.
Before working in government and politics, Roberts was in private practice for more than 20 years, including partnerships at law firms Skadden Arps and Davis Wright Tremaine International.
