Forbes magazine’s annual list of America’s 400 wealthiest people included four Virginians.
The richest Virginian on the list was Jacqueline Mars with a net worth of $24 billion. Her fortune stems from her ownership of an estimated one third of McLean-based Mars Inc., the world’s largest candy maker. Mars’ wealth made her No. 18 on Forbes’ list.
The other three Virginians on the list don’t appear until the bottom 200.
Coming in at 223 was Winifred Johnson-Marquart with a net worth of $3.5 billion. Johnson-Marquart is the president of the Johnson Family Foundation.
Tying for 280 were two co-founders of the private equity firm Carlyle Group: William Conway Jr. and Daniel D’Aniello. Each had a net worth of $2.9 billion and were commended for their philanthropy.
Jeff Bezos of Amazon took the overall top spot on the list with a net worth of $160 billion.
