Advance Auto Parts Inc. plans to buy B.W.P. Distributors Inc., a supplier, distributor and marketer of automotive parts and products to commercial customers. It has locations in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. The acquisition will allow Roanoke-based Advance Auto to continue expansion in the Northeast. (VirginiaBusiness.com)

Cabela’s, a Nebraska-based outdoor recreation retailer, has signed a deal with the City of Bristol to buy 10 acres of land and build an 88,000-square-foot store at The Falls, a massive planned retail development. Cabela’s will be the first of two anchor stores at the $200 million, 1.47-million-square-foot retail center. Work on the Cabela’s site, near Exit 5 on Interstate 81, is expected to begin in June, with an anticipated opening date in October 2014. (VirginiaBusiness.com)

Homestead Creamery in Franklin County plans a $1.1 million expansion, aided by a first-ever state grant from the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund. The company, based in Burnt Chimney, will hire 20 additional employees, almost doubling its full-time work force, and increasing its purchase of Virginia agriculture products by almost $1.5 million. The Regency Room restaurant at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center will undergo renovations in preparation for the hotel’s 75th anniversary. Dining operations will continue but will be temporarily relocated to the Shenandoah Ballroom and the Pine Room Pub.  Renovations are expected to be complete by mid-February. Designated as a National Historic Landmark, the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center has 331 guestrooms and a 63,000-square-foot conference center. (VirginiaBusiness.com)

Liberty Medical Supply will lay off 200 workers by mid-February. Severance packages will be provided. Most of those affected work on the phones helping Liberty’s diabetic supply customers, according to Frank Harvey, Liberty’s CEO. The facility employs 350 to 400 people, depending on the time of year. New Horizons Healthcare opened a 32,000-square-foot medical facility in downtown Roanoke. Funding for the project came from a $10.7 million Affordable Care Act grant in 2010. The new facility features 21 medical examination rooms, an onsite pharmacy, dental clinic, X-ray room and space for future expansion in mental health, pediatrics and family medicine. NewRiver Bank, a branch of Roanoke-based HomeTown Bank, has broken ground on a new 9,000-square-foot office in Christiansburg. NewRiver Bank employs 11 people and serves more than 1,600 customers in the New River Valley. (VirginiaBusiness.com)

Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital was recently named the Roanoke Valley’s preferred health-care provider by consumers. National Research Corporation awarded Carilion Clinic’s Roanoke hospital with the 2012/2013 Consumer Choice Award, recognizing it among the top hospitals in the country. This is the ninth year in a row that CRMH has received the Consumer Choice Award. (News release)
