First Virginia Community Bank president to retire Saturday

Burwell Gunn, president and vice chairman of Fairfax-based First Virginia Community Bank (FVCbank) will retire from the banking industry on Saturday.  FVCbank Chairman and CEO David W. Pijor will assume the role of president, according to the bank.


Gunn served as president and vice chairman of the board of directors for FVCbank since 2008. Under his leadership, the bank completed its first acquisition, 1st Commonwealth Bank of Virginia and expanded its footprint into Arlington.


He has worked in the banking industry for 42 years. Before working for FVCbank, he served as the senior vice president of Commerce Bank and was previously managing director for Provident Bank. Gunn also founded the Cardinal Financial Corp. in Fairfax.
