Ferrum College will mark its 100th anniversary this weekend.

The Centennial and Homecoming festivities scheduled Friday through Sunday will recognize two former college presidents and the families of others, including the great-grandsons of Ferrum’s founding president, Benjamin Beckham.

The celebration will include concerts, picnics, fireworks, a parade, exhibits, athletic events, a 5-K run/walk and a theater performance.

Joe Hart, the college’s eighth president, and Ferrum’s President Emeritus Jerry Boone, are scheduled to attend the event. The school’s current president is Jennifer Braaten.

The first president, Beckham, was known for traveling the region recruiting donors and students in a Model T Ford. A similar Model T, donated to the college by Lanier Frantz, will be the centerpiece of a new exhibit observing the college's centennial at the Blue Ridge Institute & Museum.

Ferrum, located in the village of Ferrum in Franklin County, is a four-year, private, co-educational, liberal arts college with ties to the United Methodist Church. It has an enrollment of about 1,500 students
