Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government has moved tax filing deadlines from April 15 to July 15, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin announced Friday in a pair of tweets. Virginia state tax returns are still due on May 1, but the state is granting a one-month extension for payment of individual and corporate state income taxes by June 1.

“At @realDonaldTrump’s direction, we are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15,” Mnuchin posted. “All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties. … I encourage all taxpayers who may have tax refunds to file now to get your money.”
