With a doctorate from Cornell University and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Providakes is accustomed to addressing complex problems. A strong believer that “in times of uncertainty, there is opportunity,” the president and CEO of not-for-profit Mitre is at the forefront of some of today’s most pressing challenges.
As a member of the Coalition for Health AI, Mitre recently participated in the creation of the Blueprint for Trustworthy AI Implementation Guidance and Assurance for Healthcare. The $2.2 billion company also debuted its System of Trust risk model manager in March, delivering tools to identify and mitigate supply chain threats.
In December, Mitre opened a new headquarters in Australia to support growing engagement with Australian government, business and research institutions.
A three-time awardee of Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 Award, Providakes joined Mitre in 1991 as lead scientist and was promoted to president and CEO in 2017. He was named the 2022 Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards CEO of the Year, and this year the ARCS Foundation’s Metro Washington chapter presented him its Eagle Award.
