PRESIDENT, DOMINION ENERGY VIRGINIA, RICHMOND
Virginia Business// August 30, 2023//
Baine’s steady rise to the presidency of Dominion Energy’s Virginia operations began when he joined the Fortune 500 utility as an associate engineer 28 years ago.
But the seeds of his career were firmly planted when Baine, who grew up on a Lunenburg County tobacco farm, received a full scholarship to Virginia Tech, from which he earned an electrical engineering degree in 1995.
In 2020, Baine became president of Dominion Energy Virginia, which is responsible for providing electric service to about 2.7 million customers across the commonwealth. He’s also responsible for an array of renewable energy projects under development, including the $9.8 billion Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) farm off the Virginia Beach coast.
In May, Baine was one of six members inducted into the Virginia Tech Academy of Engineering Excellence, chosen from more than 77,000 living College of Engineering alumni and bringing the academy’s total membership to 179.
Baine is also a graduate of the advanced management program at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and is a registered professional engineer. Along with service on myriad industry-related boards and commissions, he is vice rector of Virginia Tech’s board of visitors.
