Elizabeth River Crossings announces CEO

Elizabeth River Crossings OpCo LLC (ERC) has promoted Anna Bonet to CEO, the company announced Wednesday. ERC finances, operates and maintains the Elizabeth River Tunnels from Portsmouth to Norfolk.

Bonet joined ERC as deputy CEO in September 2021 and worked with former CEO David Sullivan, who announced his retirement last week.

“I remain committed to continuing efforts that serve our local communities well and building on already constructive and mutually beneficial relationships with VDOT and local elected and appointed officials,” Bonet said in a statement. In November 2021, ERC announced it will contribute $3.2 million annually in toll relief funds, with a 3.5% increase each year, to provide 50% toll discounts to eligible Norfolk and Portsmouth residents.

Bonet came from ERC majority owner Abertis Infraestructuras S.A., where she worked for 21 years. She began as a project manager in Abertis’ mergers and acquisitions department. In 2009, she was named chief financial officer of the company’s Spanish toll road subsidiary, Autopistas España, and then CEO in 2017.

Born and raised in Spain, Bonet is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Universitat de Lleida and a master’s degree in economic and financial management from Esade Business School in Barcelona. In 2018, she completed the London Business School senior executive program.

Bonet has served on the boards of several Abertis subsidiaries, including Autema, Avasa, Areamed, Trados 45, Túneles de Barcelona y Cadi and Bip & Drive.

Owned by Abertis Infraestructuras S.A. and Manulife Investment Management Ltd., ERC is the operator of the downtown and midtown tunnels that run between Norfolk and Portsmouth. The company operates four tunnels and a highway in the Norfolk area, and its transportation infrastructure is used by more than 100,000 vehicles for daily commutes.
