PRESIDENT, HOLLINS UNIVERSITY, ROANOKE
Virginia Business// August 29, 2022//
When Hinton became president of Hollins University in August 2020, she joined a different campus than she expected when she accepted the job the previous February.
Formerly the president of the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota, Hinton is a North Carolina native with degrees in religion and psychology from Fordham University, the University of Kansas and Williams College. Arriving at Hollins, which has 613 female undergraduates and 181 coed graduate students, Hinton helped guide the university in its Culture of Care policies to navigate the new normal of COVID-19 as in-person learning returned — to include vaccination requirements and mask use for on-campus learning and work.
She also has been at the helm for its largest-ever donation, a $75 million gift from an anonymous alumna received in December 2021. The donation established the Levavi Oculos Endowed Scholarship Fund, which will support students beginning in fall 2023.
